Steptoe seeks a financial services regulatory associate in its Washington, New York, or Chicago offices. Candidates should have between two and five years of experience engaging with the U.S. federal regulators, particularly the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, but also the Securities and Exchange Commission or prudential banking regulators, on compliance, rulemakings, enforcement, and general strategic policy. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of the Commodity Exchange Act and relevant securities or banking statutes and regulation, and an interest in the emerging financial technology space.
The associate will focus their practice on representing financial services clients – including banks, broker-dealers, trading venues, financial market infrastructure, and cryptocurrency and blockchain companies, as well as industry associations – in compliance counseling as well as policy advocacy roles before a range of government officials. Duties include assistance with self-regulatory organization filings, swap dealer and other regulated-entity compliance initiatives, trading venue, asset custodian, and financial instrument issues, drafting comment letters, defending against enforcement matters, and pursuing other regulatory relief, and engaging with policymakers on various objectives. Candidates should be prepared to assume significant responsibly in the management of their matters, and to take on a front-facing role with clients and regulators.
Excellent academic credentials, strong writing and analytical skills, and an acute attention to detail are required. To be considered, please submit your cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and writing sample.
Agency submissions will be accepted at this time.
